Hi this could be a software issue according to this document:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106805

It could be a sign that certain folders or files have been moved.

Personally I very much doubt it is a hardware problem but would need to examine the computer in order to confirm.

I checked that site before taking it in for repair. But I was sure I did move any files (maybe damaged). The problem was the hard disk and SG replaced it under warranty. Thanks to time machine my files where all backed up :) so make sure to do the same because you never know when something like this will happen ( for me it happened 1 week before a deadline for 5 assignments and univ exams)

after the format , mail does not want to connect to servers. I know the settings, and i doubled checked them with both my pc and my phone. During the retrieval of information form the backup i attempted to put the backed up inbox files into the mail folder in the library and replaced the new one. Could i have mixed up something there ? is there a way to reset or re-install mail ?

Thanks
